simple dreams

wow, it was another crazy week.

i did manage to spend one whole afternoon in my garden,
that always soothes the soul.

it was the kind of day that made me wish i lived outside,
well, as long as it could always be that kind of day.

things are blooming in the garden,
two bluebirds are considering build a nest in the birdhouse
(which worries me because of the cats)
and i saw the first hummingbird of the year.

a crazy week, but a wonderful day.

the older i get, the easier i am to amuse.

i like the simple things.

a flower. a bird. the sun.

right now, that’s all it takes
to make me happy.

nature’s gentle promise

there is always a song to be heard in the forest

just put your ear to the ground and listen

always a melody that ripples

a note that holds

and the spirit of hope

hums

good day sunshine

It’s true, the sun still exists. I was starting to wonder there for a while! I am having issues with my knee (that may require surgery, ugh) so I have been experimenting with my camera a bit. Rather than physically squatting down to take a picture, I just held the camera down to the ground and aimed it up to a place I thought would work and let it shoot and focus on its own. I got a lot of crazy shots, but then I got this one as well, which I love.

I have a feeling this is going to be a fun new experiment. And my knee will be happier for it.

All the Spring flowers are finally blooming, daffodils and tulips, hyacinth and bleeding hearts, even a few forget-me-nots. Don’t you just love forget-me-nots? The color of the sky, so sweet and tiny…

We are finally getting things in place for our jewelry shows, the first one is just one month away! Yikes. The next few weeks will be crazy, getting back into the groove for that first show. It’s hard to believe that summer is so near. Hard to believe that it is already May. Wasn’t it just January yesterday?

Ah, time flies…

Here’s hoping we all find a little time to stop and smell the flowers.

april showers

As promised, all those showers did indeed bring flowers.
April was a month of rain and poetry, contemplation and planning,
learning and listening. I am ready for May with its
growth and green, hope and sunshine.
So very ready.

The shift was slow this year, from grey to color,
a long drawn-out session of watercolor painting
on a landscape that refused to dry.
But I have a feeling it was meant to be that way
for a reason I have not yet uncovered.

Perhaps it was a time to give myself time.
To surrender to all the things I cannot control,
to re-learn patience, acceptance, and gratitude.
Time to grow the strong roots that will
support me throughout the year.

Now, I feel like this daffodil, finally peeking out
from beneath the heaviest of winter blankets.

Raising my face up to the sun,
soaking in that warmth,
that light, that energy.

better late

My world is slowly turning green. And I am reminded of how I truly have nothing to complain about. Yes, we have had non-stop rain for the past month, but that is nothing compared to what so many others are going through.

We actually had tornado warnings here yesterday, something almost unheard of in Upstate New York. Thankfully, it ended up just being really windy in some places, but there were no actual tornadoes.

My heart goes out to all of those that have had to go through them, it feels like Mother Nature is really, really upset about something this year.

It can be hard to stay positive sometimes, when there is so much going on in the world that seems so sad and negative. These tiny leaves reminds me that life goes on, always.

And so, today I find myself feeling grateful.

For this green, this life,

this brief moment

in the sun.

curiouser and curiouser

They say curiosity killed the cat. And I guess I know what they mean, but that same curiosity is one of the things I love best about cats.

They have the ability to be easily amused. I like that. Whether it’s watching a spider climb the sides of a bucket, or taking a long nap in the sun, a cat is never bored.

A cat sees the world as its playground, there is always something that needs exploring or close observation, always something to get excited about.

The world is filled with new things every day, but most of the time we are just too busy to notice them. Or we take them for granted. Or they don’t seem important enough to garner our attention.

Today I am going to remind myself to view the world through cat’s eyes.

And if I’m lucky, I may just end up with a cheshire cat smile

that will light my way through the night.
