optimism

how brave is the flower

that breaks through cold earth

in search of a sun who never

made any promises

never offered hope

or any kind of commitment

just a stray bit of warmth

a bold benevolent smile

and

just the right light

to make her

golden

ouch

I woke up to a mess today, a winter wonderland that looked pretty, but was in fact, doing lots of damage.

Tree branches have broken under the weight of heavy snow piled on top of leaves popped out too early, climbing rose bushes have toppled to the ground, lilacs are bent and buried, and underneath the snow, the yard is flooded.

I have been out twice already to knock snow off branches that are groaning from this weight they cannot bear. Ugh.

Mother Nature comes to call once again, and all we can do is clean up when she is through with us.

So far, at least I still have power, there are many who do not. Keeping my fingers crossed on that one.

My naughty kitten went outside and came back thirty seconds later with a poor sparrow in his mouth. No doubt the little bird was too distracted by his search for food in this weather to notice the presence of a cat.

All in all, not the best way to start a week.

Here’s hoping it gets better from here.

the golden rule

sometimes you have to find your own sunshine

breathe in the yellow of a tulip

give the busy a rest while you soak it all in

escape inside a book or a movie or a long, long walk

:::::

it’s been that kind of a week for me

busy busy busy

which is good, but oh my, i am tired

:::::

our first jewelry show of the year is next weekend

gearing up, getting ready, smiling

:::::

wishing you a weekend filled with

time to inhale, enjoy, relax

forget me not

with your face to the sun

and those oh so pretty eyes

whispering promises of summer sun

and beach felt days

books and sand spilling over

like blankets

sugar coated

It’s hard to sugar-coat some days, especially lately when there is too much work and not enough play, but today the sun is shining, it is warm enough for morning tea in the garden, and hopefully I will be able to break away for a midday run.

My garden is filled with weeds, seriously filled with them. I have whole sections that need to be completely dug up, but somehow, this sounds like fun to me. This morning finds me wishing to be out there, unable to, but wishing.

And so, in looking for the silver lining, the sugar-coating, the beauty that I knew had to be there somewhere, I found a dew-sprinkled weed looking far too pretty to be ignored.

The windows were open all night long, and the mockingbirds were out early, mocking. I can’t be annoyed with them, even when they get me out of bed earlier than planned. Their enthusiasm for life just makes me smile.

And so, here I am, smiling on a Monday morning.

Well then, life is pretty good, don’t you think?

Wishing you a week filled with sweetness.

friday the 13th

because i am exhausted, with a headache and a house to clean and lots more work to do

and because it is friday the 13th, which arrived with glorious sunshine and daffodils finally peeking their heads out

and because it is national poetry month and because none of that makes any sense at all,

i give you this e.e.cummings poem:

in time of daffodils(who know
the goal of living is to grow)
forgetting why,remember how

in time of lilacs who proclaim
the aim of waking is to dream,
remember so(forgetting seem)

in time of roses(who amaze
our now and here with paradise)
forgetting if,remember yes

in time of all sweet things beyond
whatever mind may comprehend,
remember seek(forgetting find)

and in a mystery to be
(when time from time shall set us free)
forgetting me,remember me

in time of daffodils

::

wishing you a weekend filled with sunshine and daffodils.

what goes around

It was Spring and then it wasn’t

it was warm but now it’s cold

I was slow but now I’m busy

I was rested but now I’m tired

my mind was full but now it’s empty

the sun was here but now it’s hiding

but it’s okay, it’s okay

that’s just the way life goes.

monday moment

the sun glinting through lovely green glass

tea at the window watching crows scratch for seed

trees that bend in a wind that wishes to be winter

a vase filled with tulips, slightly faded

seedlings being patient in the basement

kitten curled in my lap as a blanket of warmth

a new week begins with the promise of busy

filled with life and reminders

to notice

little things

flight

I have flown and I have landed,

soared and floated on a wave of wind

as silent as yesterday’s sunset.

I have traveled through

forest and thoroughfare,

built nests and filled them with life.

Always,

I come back to this place,

homing in

on hope

and this tree that fills my need for

roots.
