Kitten cat

It’s been a crazy-busy week already and it’s only Wednesday. The kind of week where nose to the grindstone leaves no time for sitting in the garden, no time for writing, no time for playing with a naughty kitten.

He comes to my studio window and meows, not wanting to come in, but rather, wanting me to come out.

And I say yes, me too, but you see, there’s this work that needs doing. But he doesn’t see, of course, he has no concept of bills to be paid and chores to be done, and he tries to get his way by flopping down belly up in the garden path and looking at me in the irresistible upside-down-way that always makes me laugh.

And I think he has the right idea.

Perhaps tomorrow.

In the meantime, I’ll just have to let him soak up the sun for me…

Wishing you a Wednesday filled with sunshine.

friday smile

This photo keeps making me laugh, my silly girl kitty
sleeping with the tip of her nose resting against a file box.

I kind of know how she feels, it’s been another week
with my own nose to the grindstone.

This weekend, I must remember to look up.

I hope you do, too.

Wishing you a weekend of blue skies and good times

all aboard…

Three out of four of our pets,

and my husband is in there, somewhere.

Just another night on the couch

in crazy cat lady town.

Wishing you a weekend filled with love.

he waits

not just for the door to open

but for the door to open onto a fresh, green world

snow melted

birds singing

grass to roll in

i wait, too

sometimes you just have to laugh

at plans and schedules and to-do lists

because life has its own big ideas and when

it comes right down to it

you might just have to stop everything

and lay on the couch for a few days

and if you’re going to do that

you might as well do it

with a smile on your face

wishing you a monday filled with smiles

We’re gearing up for two big shows in November,
more info to come this week.

goodbyes the color of roses

Today is a sad day for our family, as we say goodbye to our oldest cat.

She has been with us for eighteen years,
as long as my husband and I have been together.

It feels like the end of an era.

The sun is shining, and just now,
she has found a patch of bright light to sit in.

And that is how I will remember her best.

Wishing you a week filled with sunshine and fond memories.

a wednesday like any other

It’s ridiculously cold, and my naked garden is not amused.

Losing the nice blanket of snow that had been covering it is not really a good thing, if you’re a plant.

The sun is shining, though, and it’s hard to complain about that, especially in January. I have work to catch up on, paperwork to finish, and each night, a cozy fire to sit before. It’s hard to complain about that as well.

The naughty kitten is complaining, not being a fan of snow or cold temperatures, he is bored and housebound. He sits at the window watching birds and waiting for spring. We had bad news about our oldest cat yesterday, not unexpected, but still, she is nearing the end of her time with us. For now, we just make her comfortable, feed her all the tuna she wants, and wait. We’ve had her for 18 years, my husband still remembers how, as a tiny kitten, she used to climb up his pant leg all the way to his shoulder to sit there while he washed the dishes. I brought her home right around the time that we met, and she has always been part of our relationship.

And so it is.

Next week, there will be another Wednesday.

And another the week after that.

And each day in between will be a gift.

cute sleepy kitten face

All of that jewelry-making really wears a kitten out, you know?

At long last, I am ready to go.

Today is set-up day, and then the rest of the weekend,
I will be there (see below),
and he will be here (see above).
Ah, the life of a kitten…

a tiny fragment of you

The blue of forget-me-nots has worked its way throughout my garden,
spreading itself everywhere like an oh-so-beautiful weed.
Even in the woods next to the driveway, there is an undercarpet
of fresh spring green and bright sky blue.

I should pull them up, technically they are choking out
the growth of other plants.
But I don’t have to heart to do it.

Instead, I sit here,
