just breathe…

Because some days, we could use a little reminder.

I know I need to remind myself quite often lately, I have been
busy busy with graphics work, gardening, and loading
photography and new jewelry pieces onto etsy.

Making a living as an artist is hard work.

But even so, it’s the best kind of labor. A labor of love.

So today, at least once, stop everything and just breathe.

Inhale.

Take in the world around you.

That’s my plan, anyway.

.

Wishing you a day filled with color.

smoothing out the rough edges

geranium-513-tbm

It has been perfect gardening weather for days now, sunny, mild, birds singing, flowers flowering, living outside kind of weather. I spent much of the weekend outside, working hard clearing out the one section I never tackled last year. I was reminded, once again, how manual labor really can be good for the soul.

Of course, I had to keep my head down and concentrate on the little patch of earth right in front of me, because every time I looked up at the jungle I still have to conquer, I wanted to go back inside. The big picture is a giant mess, so I got down on my hands and knees and focused on the small stuff.

The gorgeous color in these geraniums.

The feel of the sun on my back.

The barn swallows swooping overhead, chattering away.

And it worked. I found the peace I needed and made it halfway through that section. At the end of the day, I was filthy and exhausted, but it felt so good to stop thinking for a while and just be, to focus on just one thing and enjoy the rhythm of accomplishment.

I didn’t allow myself to worry about how the weeds will grow back, how much more I still have to do, what I’m going to do about that invasive vine.

I just went about my business like a flower, turning my face to the sun, soaking up life and color and doing what must be done.

Which is to say, I think I bloomed.

monday sings a song of love

It was a cold, chilly, windy weekend weather-wise. But the sun was shining in my heart, so I didn’t mind. There was lots of food and family time, lots of reading and relaxing, lots of life and laughter.

On Saturday, I pulled dandelions forever. My back was sore, but it felt good to be out there, good to accomplish a simple chore, good to listen to the birds sing and the wind blow.

The trees all have their spring green on, everything looks lush and verdant and new.

Possibility hangs in the air like sunshine.

Close your eyes, make a wish.

I dare ya.

blooming

The shape of things is always changing.
What you thought was round suddenly becomes triangular,
what you thought would fit suddenly becomes
uncomfortably tight.

Growth happens, even when you feel dormant.

And somehow, you suddenly find yourself blooming
in bright bold colors.

Change. Resilience. Tenacity.

Each fragile flower holds all of these in her heart.

Along with a tiny ray of sun.

It’s all there, waiting.

Go ahead,

open.

she waits

It was a glorious weekend with perfect weather and much time spent outdoors. Mama bluebird spent most of her time watching over the nest box, not amused that I was out there invading her space, but never straying too far away. There are three eggs in the nest, and I am hoping that this year, we will have babies.

Between the sparrows and the swallows and the other larger birds (not to mention a certain unmentionable kitten) it is always a fight for survival. And so, she waits. And I wait with her, holding my breath and watching over them all.

Mother bird, mother gardener, mother nature, all working hand in hand to hatch three tiny lives. Of course, in truth, Papa bluebird is lending a hand as well, ever vigilant and protective.

The world outside my window is vibrant and verdant and filled with gifts. Windows are open, and all day the music plays… birdsong and peeping frogs and rustling breezes filled with scent.

And I bask in the glow of this sun, this promise of life.

The possibility.

.

Wishing you a week filled with music.
