JEWELRY
.
and this sun that always rises
reminding us to look up, look out,
reach
for the light
even in the dark days
of winter
.
another dawn filled
with enough beauty
to get me through
another day,
maybe even
two
.
spring hides in those trees
waiting to be tagged
by tilt-shift rays
.
.
.
there’s a garden under there, somewhere.
i keep reminding myself of that,
keep working hard to maintain
a sense of humor about it all,
about life.
at least i’m not a bird.
at least i have tea
and a fire
and words.
but i wish
i had a snowsuit
as well.
.
.
.
.
reflecting hope and promise
time shift and life change
blue sky and sun ray
.
i hide inside and wait
walk outside and shiver
hide inside and wait
.
patience is more than a virtue
it’s survival
.
the coldest weekend of the winter coming up, Sunday’s high is 0˚ F
i’ll be inside, soaking up the light and waiting
there are seed catalogs and books to be read
and written
.
wishing you a weekend filled with light
.
.
.
.
a veil of shape and shadow
clinging
tight
to a mirage of
silence
.
beauty standing tall
with indecision
.
.
.
this is the view out my window just now
and i couldn’t help but think of Pink Floyd’s song, this line:
we’re just two lost souls living in a fish bowl, year after year
it’s a pretty view
so, there’s that
and i’m going to pretend those are mountains
.
wishing you a weekend filled with magic

I’ve seen halos around the moon before, but never a rainbow-colored one. This photo doesn’t even begin to show what it really looked like, but I was glad I bundled up to go outside anyway, though I wished I’d planned ahead and thought to set up my tripod.
But we take the moment we get, and this was mine last night, a moment of extraordinary, a gift from February, or a bribe, perhaps, trying to win me over.
And my heart did melt, just a little.
Perhaps we’ll be friends after all.
new snow on top of old snow
february on top of january
neutral shades fill the frame of every window
except for cardinals
winter’s gift to help us remember
color
.
wishing you a week filled with song

Technically, a terrible photo, but, oh, what a sight.
I had to shoot through the window because I knew
if I walked outside they would all fly away.
Eleven male cardinals and most of their mates,
and harder to see (but there) six blue jays.
A red, white and blue winter day.

Wishing you a weekend filled with color.
