sugar and spice and everything nice…

.

A weekend with the sweet little grandbaby,
lots of smiles and family and baby girl snuggles.

It was the perfect kick-off to summer,
despite the fact that it rained all weekend.

Somehow that really didn’t matter.
There was enough love to fill our hearts with sunshine.

.

Wishing you a week filled with love.

standing at attention

A lone larkspur growing in the middle of the patio area,
there because I didn’t have the heart
to pull it up like a weed.

This morning, rushing through life
in getting-things-done mode,
I stopped to admire its tenacity.

Summer is here.

Life is here.

Inhale.

.

Thank you, my lovely larkspur.

always a smile and a big wide heart

Taking time today to wish my mom a Happy Birthday. I’ve never know anyone so kind and caring and giving. She spends all her time doing things for other people, taking care and offering assistance, concern, and companionship, and sometimes nothing more than an ear to bend or a shoulder to cry on.

She’s the best, and I just wanted to let her know how much she is appreciated for all that she offers to the world. It’s a better place simply because she’s in it.

I love you, Nana. You’ve taught me so much about life and living.

Take a little time for yourself today, read a book, take a nap, put your feet up.

You deserve it.

xoxoxo

i’m going to sit in the sun

Kitten cat

It’s been a crazy-busy week already and it’s only Wednesday. The kind of week where nose to the grindstone leaves no time for sitting in the garden, no time for writing, no time for playing with a naughty kitten.

He comes to my studio window and meows, not wanting to come in, but rather, wanting me to come out.

And I say yes, me too, but you see, there’s this work that needs doing. But he doesn’t see, of course, he has no concept of bills to be paid and chores to be done, and he tries to get his way by flopping down belly up in the garden path and looking at me in the irresistible upside-down-way that always makes me laugh.

And I think he has the right idea.

Sigh.

Perhaps tomorrow.

In the meantime, I’ll just have to let him soak up the sun for me…

.

Wishing you a Wednesday filled with sunshine.

because sometimes life needs a bit of extra sweetness

and i’m missing the sunshine

this morning the clouds touched down to earth

with a fog as wet as rain

everything has been damp for days and i think

this must be what it feels like to live in a rain forest

my garden sounds tropical

birds singing songs i’ve never heard before

everything changes, always

nodding heads and singing hearts

Two years ago, I had more poppies in my garden than I could count. This year just a few, and I miss their happy, nodding heads.

Growing up, I lived in a house that had no garden, through we had a lovely yard to play in with lots of green grass and shade from loads of black walnut trees, and a swing set that was well-loved by us four children. The only flowers we grew were orange poppies, down a strip on the side of the house where no one ever went, really, as it was just a little two-foot wide-stretch bordering the neighbor’s property.

And I don’t even know why I thought of that today except that the sun is shining and poppies are blooming and birds are singing.

And now I have the sudden urge to find a swing and touch my toes to the sky.

And I’m smiling.

Wishing you a Wednesday filled with smiles.

armloads of peonies

The mulching is finally done for another year, and almost as a reward, the peonies all popped out over the weekend. This morning I cut an armful to put ’round the house… because peonies, of all flowers, are meant to be cut.

It’s supposed to rain for days now, and my garden will be happy.

There is work to do and words to write, it’s time for sundresses and bare feet, and summer has moved into my heart. And my house smells like peony heaven.

My soul is smiling.

Wishing you a week filled with smiles.
