and time hangs in the air like berries

a still, still morning
a week of temperatures that feel like fall
a sparrow feeding its almost-grown baby
the buzz song of grasshopper
a garden washed cleaned by rain
flowers past their prime
flowers waiting to take the spotlight
grey web on blue green pine
shadow shapes that twist and lengthen
fruit that will become winter’s favorite earrings
a still, still morning
