JEWELRY

waterfront art festival
and the silver lining

So I woke up this morning, which is the day that we are to set up for the Waterfront Art Festival and it is raining. No, actually it is pouring. Ugh. The only thing that’s as bad as doing a festival in the rain is setting up for a festival in the rain. Everything will be wet before we even get started.

This is such a lovely festival, held right on the main beach of Canandaigua Lake, our view will be of water and sailboats and seagulls, unless it is of gray skies, rough waves and lightning. Ugh. Last year our tent almost blew away, several other vendor’s tents DID blow away, it was crazy. The festival itself had to close early on Sunday because of a severe thunderstorm, and even though we had started to pack things up, we didn’t finish before the deluge came and there we stood, huddled inside our tent as thunder and lightning and torrential rain raged all around us.

It’s supposed to clear up a little later, and I am hoping for that window to get our tent set up. The weekend calls for scattered thunderstorms and I am hoping they will scatter themselves away to somewhere else. I am trying to think positive thoughts and remain optimistic, although looking out the window, right now, as I write this, it’s difficult. It’s pouring.

But I’m trying… My sister and I always have fun together, we crack silly jokes and talk about all the things we never have time to talk about otherwise. We always meet nice people, many of whom have become friends over the years. We chat with other vendors, especially about the weather, and when things get rough, we all band together to help each other out. It is always great to get feedback from customers, and new ideas, and really, festivals are fun. If the sun is shining, people are happy and friendly and you see that there is an appreciation for things handmade, for creativity, for art.

Oh, and I won’t have to water my weeds garden this weekend.

So there it is, the silver lining and some silver jewelry, and I hope that if you’re in the area, and the weather is nice, you will stop by and say hello…
