JEWELRY

the little things

It’s a heat wave today, 40 degrees, which seriously feels like warmth. It really is all relative, isn’t it?

There is still a lot of snow on the ground, and I’m sure there is more yet to come, but the late afternoon light has changed again ever-so-slightly, throwing shadows of spring in long, slanting lines across the snowdrifts. The fact that I have noticed this also means that we’ve had sunshine, and sunshine has a way of changing everything.

Yesterday, my husband had planned to take me out to dinner for Valentine’s Day, but then I had a migraine and it was really, really cold and really, really windy and in the end, we made a fire and ate leftover pizza. We watched some movies and we read, me still reading Hemingway, For Whom the Bell Tolls, my husband reading The Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wroblewski, which was my second-favorite book of last year. Maybe even my favorite.

I spent the day on the couch with a migraine, but somehow I was happy, content to be quiet and do these simple things, resting and relaxing, with my husband at my side.

I was forced to slow down and do nothing. But it wasn’t really nothing at all.

It was a series of little things that added up to be a pretty good day.

Oh, I love the “series of little things” they all add up to love. Thank you for sharing your beauty with us.

I love this, although I am sad you has a migraine. I know what those are like. Yes, I was thinking that all the creatives are dragging right now under the weight of winter. But then I thought it is a way to make us rest. When the weather is good and things are popping, we hardly ever rest. So, this is a good post to remember that. I love it. Thanks, Kelly.:)

Good for you that despite the migraine you spent a lovely day. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could slow down without a force behind it but – just because?

I’m suffering with a bad migraine today so know how those can be. A day spent enjoying the little things can be just the thing we need.

Hope you’re feeling better! A simple quiet time is often the best.

hope you’re over your migraine. love the photo!

It really is the little things, they mean so much

i’m so sorry for your pain…..i had two of those buggers this past week and sheesh…..enough already. and staying in when it’s cold out is pretty much my favorite thing to do….especially when i’m doing that nothing something, too…..

What a soft image, love it

I had a migraine all weekend so I feel your pain. And my husband and son and I watched “American Pickers”, we made soup, and it was a lovely quiet weekend. You are so right — small is special. Quiet can be hugely wonderful.
