JEWELRY

the glow comes when the light
shines through you

throwing rays of hope and arbitrary beauty
across the landscape of sunset

onto the lawn of autumn with
its hidden roots of winter
fighting hard to dig down deep

and all that color clinging to branches
far too tired to hold you

the sun glinted off his shoulder as he marched on without her,
tall and straight and weathered, the way a diamond will catch the light
and throw a tiny moon onto the ceiling as you put away the dishes,
and in that one brief second, her breath caught in her throat.
it all made her think, quite suddenly, that surely, none of this

is ordinary

So love this – the final lines are just wonderful K

wow…this gives room to think in different directions…love how you go from nature to very personal and quite magical as well…love the part with the dishes as it grounds it in reality…very cool…

did he look back…?

Sounds like a perfect first sentence of a great book!

None of this is ordinary — when I eyes are open.
Well said. “too tired to hold you” – well stated

So pretty and thought provoking..

hey i like this other place of yours…i like the visuals as well…the diamond catching the sunlight makes for a pretty cool allusion too…as he walks away kinda sets this on its ear for me….like maybe a glimmer of what you have lost…

You combine the best of both worlds (poetry/prose) with great economy. You deliver insights like the glint, arriving in our minds, the unexpected small moon that shifts everything. In this world of attention you also demonstrate one of the important aspects of contemporary poetry, that anything can be the subject. The movement between the natural world and inner world is smooth, both enhanced by the beauty of your poetic voice. Your light always shines through, I leave as I have many times before with less burden, more understanding and appreciation, and full of life-affirming energy. You are a magician.

I love this, Kelly !

Awesome, loved it 🙂

Nice transition of nature to the relationship..none is so ordinary…very nice close ~

What a beautiful combination of poetry and prose. I tried to pick a favorite part, but I couldn’t. All of it is lovely.
