a break in the clouds
And I sneak outside for an hour to bask in the glow.
Of course, it doesn’t last, this apparently being the year of precipitation, but you have to take what you can get, right?
The clouds returned a short while later, giving me one brief glimpse of Venus and Jupiter in perfect vertical alignment before they were covered over with the threat of more rain. And a well-kept promise it was.
I fall into July with open arms, ready to catch words and raindrops and the slightly slower pace of summer. At night I turn the fans off and read while listening to frogs and crickets, stopping every so often to walk outside, where fireflies mingle with stars. The sound is deafening, in the best way possible.
No matter that later, the basement floods yet again.
It’s the year of abundance, the year of babies and frogs and fireflies, too-heavy clouds and everywhere I look, lush green growth.
It’s the summer of smiles, despite the not-so-fun details.
I let the rain run right off my back, the humidity seep into my skin.
I am swimming in life.
Timing my breath.
Paddling forward.

It IS the year of abundance. I could kiss you for putting it that way – I needed to hear that. 180 degrees of turn around thinking.
